Bunker silos offer many advantages for the storage of haylage and corn silage, but sealing is not the most fun job on the farm but should receive the highest priority.
When silage is not covered, air and moisture can easily enter the silo and adversely affect both the ensiling process and the quality of silage during the storing and feeding.
Currently the most effective covering is polyethylene (6-mil plastic). Once placed over ensiled forage, it must be weighted down, commonly done with tires.
Using Bunker Silo Sidewalls makes is easier for handling and they will not trap water inside the tires creating a danger of West Nile Virus.
They are easily stored outdoors, environmentally friendly, durable and long lasting.
